Abstrakt: This article discusses a study that aimed to determine the effectiveness of a routine 36-week growth ultrasound in detecting small for gestational age (SGA) neonates in a low-risk population. The study involved pregnant patients who were considered low-risk for preterm pre-eclampsia and were offered a routine ultrasound at 36 weeks. The results showed that the sensitivity of the ultrasound in detecting SGA at birth was low, but there was a reduced incidence of neonates born below the 3rd centile, which is associated with higher morbidity and mortality. Overall, the study suggests that while the routine ultrasound may not be highly effective in detecting SGA, it may still have some clinical utility in identifying high-risk cases.
