This article, published in the journal Ultrasound in Obstetrics & Gynecology, discusses the development of an ultrasound-based definition for central necrosis in order to differentiate between uterine sarcomas and leiomyomas. The study involved a blinded analysis of ultrasound images of uterine sarcomas and leiomyomas by two experienced examiners, who evaluated the presence of central necrosis based on specific criteria. The results showed that central necrosis was observed in a higher percentage of uterine sarcoma cases compared to leiomyoma cases. The study concludes that ultrasound can be useful in distinguishing between these two conditions, but further research is needed to validate these findings. [Extracted from the article] |
