Abstrakt: A recent study conducted by researchers at the University of Leuven in Belgium explored the effects of high-acetate-producing strains of Saccharomyces cerevisiae var. boulardii on ulcerative colitis. The study used a preclinical model of colitis induced by dextran sodium sulphate and found that the high-acetate-producing strain had a lower disease activity compared to control groups. The strain with the highest acetate production was also found to maintain a stable gut microbial alpha-diversity during inflammation. These findings suggest that high-acetate-producing strains of Saccharomyces cerevisiae var. boulardii may have potential for managing inflammation in inflammatory bowel disease.
