Abstrakt: A recent study conducted at Staten Island University Hospital in New York examined the relationship between heart failure (HF) and the risk of infective endocarditis (IE) in individuals with permanent pacemakers (PPM). The study found that patients with HF were 1.30 times more likely to develop IE compared to those without HF. Even after matching for age, gender, and comorbidities, HF was still independently associated with an increased risk of IE. The researchers suggest that larger studies are needed to confirm these findings and evaluate the need for antimicrobial prophylaxis in this population. [Extracted from the article]
