A recent study conducted by researchers at Symbiosis International (Deemed University) in Maharashtra, India, has investigated the antimicrobial activity of epsilon poly-l-lysine (e-PL) against Acinetobacter baumannii, a bacterium known for its antibiotic resistance. The study found that e-PL significantly reduced the biofilm formation abilities of all tested clinical isolates of A. baumannii and decreased the dispersion of preformed biofilms. This reduction in biofilm formation may be attributed to the inhibition of autoinducer synthase (abaI) and the alteration of expression of biofilm-related genes. These findings suggest that e-PL could be effective in eliminating A. baumannii biofilms and reducing its virulence. [Extracted from the article] |
