The 16th International Symposium on Schistosomiasis, held in Brazil, focused on disease control and elimination. Participants from 11 countries discussed various aspects of schistosomiasis, including the development of disease control tools and health education. The symposium featured keynote speeches, poster presentations, panel discussions, and abstract submissions. A Research Topic dedicated to the symposium aimed to disseminate selected studies presented during the event, covering topics such as diagnostic tests, host-parasite interactions, potential drug targets, and vaccine development. These studies contribute to the search for new strategies to combat schistosomiasis. The text also highlights the importance of education and diagnostic development in achieving the World Health Organization's guidelines for controlling and eliminating the disease.
