Abstrakt: Employing foreign faculty members (FFMs) is one of the strategic internationalization efforts of Thai higher education institutions (HEIs). This qualitative study explored the roles and challenges of 13 volunteer FFMs while advancing internationalization efforts within their Thai HEIs. After a reflexive thematic analysis of qualitative data collected from open-ended surveys and semi-structured interviews, the research identified key themes in their roles: offering practical insights, facilitating collaborative partnerships, emphasizing professional development, ensuring adherence to quality standards, and promoting cultural exchange and inclusivity. The study also explicated themes on complexities of interpersonal dynamics between FFMs and their local and international colleagues, the adoption of new teaching frameworks, and the impact of language proficiency dilemmas on curriculum delivery. This study highlights the critical contributions of FFMs in shaping the internationalization agenda and enhancing the global competitiveness of Thai HEIs. Furthermore, the study accentuates the importance of fostering a supportive and inclusive academic environment, promoting intercultural understanding, and balancing global perspectives with local cultural sensitivities. Future research directions and implications on Thai HEIs and beyond are offered. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
