The article examines the sociohistorical context of interactions between the U.S. tobacco industry and African Americans. Topics include the delay made by the federal government on finalizing the Food and Drug Administration's proposed rule to ban menthol as a characterizing flavor in cigarettes, which can reduce the burden of tobacco use, the economic success of the American tobacco industry, and indication of a more complex relationship with African American farmers than initially evident. |
