A study conducted by investigators from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology explores the use of cytokines in immunotherapy. Cytokines are powerful immunotherapeutic agents but can cause severe side effects when administered systemically. To overcome this challenge, the researchers engineered cytokines for local delivery to tumors. They found that a localized cytokine therapy targeting the CD45 receptor effectively induced systemic antitumor immunity without toxicity in mouse tumor models. This research provides insights into the development of safer and more effective cytokine therapies for cancer treatment. [Extracted from the article] |
