Researchers at the University Pablo de Olavide in Seville, Spain have discovered new antimicrobial thiophene derivatives that show activity against drug-resistant Gram-negative bacteria, including Acinetobacter baumannii and Escherichia coli. The compounds exhibited bactericidal effects and increased membrane permeabilization, reducing bacterial adherence to host cells. Docking studies showed a strong binding affinity to specific bacterial targets. These findings suggest that thiophene derivatives could enhance the repertoire of drug treatments against drug-resistant bacteria. [Extracted from the article] |
