A recent report from researchers at MedStar Georgetown University Hospital provides updates on the epidemiology, diagnosis, and treatment of Chagas disease. The study highlights the changing epidemiology of the disease, with cases now being found in the USA as well as Latin America. The researchers recommend screening for Chagas disease in individuals who have lived in endemic areas, have a family history of the disease, or have been bitten by kissing bugs. Treatment options for the parasitic infection are limited, and further research is needed to explore the use of antiparasitics during chronic Chagas disease. [Extracted from the article] |
