Abstrakt: A study conducted at the University of New South Wales in Sydney, Australia compared the mechanical and biological properties of double network hydrogels reinforced with either gellan gum or sodium alginate. The researchers found that gellan gum reinforcement increased the strength, stiffness, and toughness of the hydrogels, while alginate reinforcement increased their stretchability. The study also observed differences in cell attachment and spreading between the two materials. These findings provide valuable insights for designing hydrogels for specific applications in biomedical devices, tissue engineering, and soft robotics. The research was supported by the Australian Research Council and has been peer-reviewed. [Extracted from the article]
