Abstrakt: Researchers at National Tsing-Hua University in Hsinchu, Taiwan have developed a new screening strategy to detect ovarian cancer. They used a systematic evolution of ligands by exponential enrichment (SELEX) process to select a methylation-specific aptamer that can capture methylated cell-free DNA (cfDNA) from the blood of ovarian cancer patients. This aptamer was then integrated into a microfluidic chip for rapid and automatic detection of methylated tumor suppressor genes. The researchers believe that this screening strategy could be used not only for ovarian cancer diagnosis but also for detecting DNA methylation in other types of cancer. [Extracted from the article]
