New research from McGill University in Montreal, Canada has found that metastatic breast cancer cells undergo metabolic reprogramming to maintain redox homeostasis during metastasis. The study showed that liver-metastatic breast cancer cells retain a glycolytic profile, but also exhibit unique metabolic adaptations, including increased expression of genes involved in glutathione biosynthesis and reactive oxygen species detoxification. The researchers suggest that targeting glutathione metabolism could be a potential strategy to prevent the dissemination of breast cancer cells. [Extracted from the article] |
