Abstrakt: Researchers from Yeungnam University in South Korea have conducted a study on the potential anticancer effects of stilbenes derived from the roots of Polygonum multiflorum Thunb. Stilbenes are a type of compound found in herbal medicine. The study identified seven stilbene glycosides and four non-stilbenes, some of which had not been previously isolated from this species. The researchers found that certain compounds significantly inhibited the growth of malignant pleural mesothelioma (MPM) cancer cells. These findings suggest that stilbenes could be used in new strategies for the treatment of MPM. The research has been peer-reviewed and published in the journal Fitoterapia.
