A study conducted by the University of Copenhagen in Denmark aimed to compare chronic pain rates in young men after open mesh repair versus nonmesh repair of elective primary unilateral indirect inguinal hernias. Inguinal hernia repair is a common procedure, and the use of mesh has been effective in reducing recurrence rates. However, chronic pain is now the most important postoperative complication. While mesh repair does not increase chronic pain in the general adult population, there is limited evidence comparing mesh and nonmesh repairs in young adults. Further investigation is needed to determine the role of mesh in postoperative chronic pain in young men. [Extracted from the article] |
