A recent report from Maharashtra, India discusses research findings on movement disorders. The report focuses on the complex challenge of diagnosing and treating psychosis in elderly individuals with multiple comorbidities and conflicting symptom domains. The report presents a case study of an elderly male with diabetes, hypertension, and ischemic heart disease, who experienced abnormal choreiform movements and psychotic symptoms. The patient's condition improved with antipsychotic treatment, but neuroimaging revealed changes suggestive of nonketotic hyperglycemic hemichorea, which only improved with glycemic control. The report emphasizes the importance of balancing treatment to address reversible causes while minimizing impact on comorbidities. [Extracted from the article] |
