A new study conducted by researchers at Aga Khan University in Karachi, Pakistan, has highlighted the limited access to dental care in the country, with less than 5% of the population having access to qualified dental practitioners. The lack of locally relevant dental guidelines further exacerbates the problem. To address this issue, the researchers developed clinical practice guidelines (CPGs) and referral pathways for common oral diseases, such as periodontitis and dental pain, based on a thorough evidence review process. The study concluded that contextually relevant CPGs and referral pathways have the potential to improve patient outcomes in Pakistan, particularly in reducing the burden of oral malignancies.
