Abstrakt: Naming and renaming are crucial aspects of shaping the identity of a space. This article examines the transformations of naming and renaming of streets and landmarks in Tehran over the course of a century, as reflected in the media. The study aims to highlight the emergence and peak points of these processes within various trends. A quantitative content analysis method was employed to analyze the data. The data for this research were collected from all published issues of the "Ettela'at" newspaper, spanning nearly a century. After gathering relevant texts pertaining to naming, the data were categorized and subjected to content analysis. Names and renamings are primarily influenced by power dynamics and, on the other hand, social and political developments. The findings of the research indicate that in the past century, names with political inclinations had the highest frequency, to the extent that names of personalities or political events quickly gained prominence after structural changes. Essentially, the first step following structural changes was the eradication of names associated with the values of the past system. Subsequently, names in harmony with the prevailing ideology needed to be established, both on the grand stage of streets and urban thoroughfares and in collective memory. In other words, the current government seeks to invalidate the identity of the past regime and introduce a new identity. This is evident through the attention given to certain names and the erasure of names incongruent with itself. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
