Nasopharyngeal angiofibroma is a relatively rare tumor, which is locally aggressive and histologically benign with transformation to a malignant sarcomatous form in a previously irradiated candidate. Here we are reporting the second known case according to literature of a non irradiated case of nasopharyngeal angiofibroma who was previously operated 11 times for the excision of nasopharyngeal angiofibroma. All the previous biopsy reports were proven to be of nasopharyngeal angiofibroma, but for the last time, when he was operated at our center, biopsy showed malignant transformation of nasopharyngeal angiofibroma. The patient was then subjected to intensity modulated radiotherapy and is in close surveillance, doing well till date. Hence this case presentation gives an insight about malignant transformation of nasopharyngeal angiofibroma in absence of irradiation, which is a very rare entity. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR] |
