A recent report from Zhejiang University School of Medicine in China discusses the case of a 5-year-old boy who inhaled a cotton ball, leading to pulmonary complications. The child initially presented with coughing and fever, but no foreign body aspiration was suspected. After further examination, a computed tomography scan revealed left pulmonary atelectasis, and a foreign body was confirmed through rigid bronchoscopy. The successful operation resulted in the child's improved condition and discharge from the hospital. The research emphasizes the importance of considering foreign body aspiration in cases of recurrent pulmonary infection or abnormal imaging. [Extracted from the article] |
