Abstrakt: A recent study conducted by the Walter Reed Army Institute of Research has found that Mycoplasma genitalium (MG) infection is a public health concern among US Air Force service members with HIV due to antimicrobial resistance (AMR). The study analyzed data from 308 patients and found that the baseline prevalence of MG infection was 19.7%, with a repeat infection rate of 35%. The study also identified high rates of macrolide and fluoroquinolone resistance mutations in MG-positive rectal specimens. The researchers suggest that testing for co-occurring MG infection and AMR mutations should be considered when treating sexually transmitted infections in individuals with HIV.
