Abstrakt: A recent study conducted at the University of Sao Paulo in Brazil explored the impact of oral bacteria on alveolar bone loss and gut health. The researchers focused on the interaction between two specific bacteria, Aggregatibacter actinomycetemcomitans (Aa) and Streptococcus gordonii (Sg), which are often found together in oral biofilms. The study involved orally administering Aa and/or Sg to mice and analyzing the effects on alveolar bone loss, gene expression related to inflammation and mucosal permeability in the intestine, serum LPS levels, and the composition of oral and intestinal microbiomes. The results showed that infection with Aa or Sg disrupted both oral and gut microbiomes, but the combination of Aa with Sg appeared to mitigate the adverse effects of Aa in the gut, suggesting a beneficial role of Sg associations in gut health.
