A new report from the Interbalkan European Medical Center in Thessaloniki, Greece, presents fresh data on the use of vertebroplasty and kyphoplasty in the management of osteoporotic vertebral compression fractures (OVCFs) in elderly individuals. These minimally invasive procedures have been found to be safe and effective, with minimal complications and rapid recovery. The study evaluated the impact of these procedures on pain and health-related quality of life (HRQoL) using standardized measures. The results showed significant improvement in pain and HRQoL, with pain intensity reduced during the first 3 months and overall improvement reaching a plateau at 6 months. This research suggests that vertebroplasty and kyphoplasty are viable options for treating OVCFs in elderly patients, improving their symptoms and overall quality of life.
