Researchers at the Institute of Regenerative Medicine have published a comprehensive review on the use of natural small molecule compounds (NSMs) to enhance the therapeutic effects of mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) for injury repair in vital internal organs. MSCs therapy has the potential to promote immunomodulation and anti-inflammatory, anti-apoptotic, and antimicrobial activities, but the limited infusion, survival, and engraftment of transplanted MSCs reduce its effectiveness. The review discusses the use of NSMs as a pretreatment strategy to regulate MSCs and achieve better clinical outcomes. The research also highlights future directions and challenges in transforming MSC research into clinical applications. [Extracted from the article] |
