A recent study conducted in Kerala, India, examined the ocular toxicity of anti-tubercular treatment (ATT) using optical coherence tomography (OCT). The study found that despite a normal appearance on ophthalmoscopy, OCT revealed a loss of retinal nerve fibers in patients undergoing ATT. The study also observed a significant reduction in visual acuity and color vision abnormalities in some patients. The researchers concluded that early diagnosis and active screening are crucial in preventing visual impairment and blindness caused by ATT. [Extracted from the article] |
