A systematic review and meta-analysis conducted by researchers at the University of Western Ontario examined the clinical outcomes of meniscal repair in patients aged 40 years and older compared to younger patients. The study found that meniscal repair in older patients had a failure rate of 12% and a revision meniscal procedure rate of 9.8%. However, there were no statistically significant differences in failure rates, revision meniscal procedure rates, or patient-reported outcome measures between older and younger patients. The researchers concluded that meniscal repairs can be performed in selected older patients, and age alone should not be the sole determining factor in deciding whether to perform a meniscal repair.
