Abstrakt: A recent study conducted by researchers at the International Islamic University Malaysia highlights the occurrence of complete heart block (CHB) as a rare but potentially life-threatening complication of leptospirosis, a bacterial infection caused by spirochetes. While leptospirosis primarily affects the kidneys and liver, cardiac involvement, including CHB, can occur and has significant clinical implications. The pathogenesis of CHB in leptospirosis is multifactorial and may involve direct cardiac invasion, systemic inflammatory response, autoimmune reactions, electrolyte imbalances, and hemodynamic effects. Prompt recognition and management of CHB are crucial to prevent adverse outcomes, and treatment strategies include supportive measures, antibiotic therapy, and consideration of permanent pacemaker implantation in refractory cases. This case report focuses on a previously healthy young man who developed complete heart block due to leptospirosis. [Extracted from the article]
