Abstrakt: | A study conducted by researchers at the University of Miami analyzed 20 years of data from the Department of Defense Trauma Registry to determine the rate of venous thromboembolism (VTE) among combat casualties requiring damage-control laparotomy at US military Role 2 surgical units. The study found that the VTE rate in this population was high, with 15.8% of patients experiencing VTE (10.3% deep venous thrombosis and 7.1% pulmonary embolism). The researchers recommend screening ultrasound upon arrival at subsequent echelons of care and a low threshold for initiating thromboprophylaxis for military casualties.
