A recent study conducted in Moscow, Russia, examined the prevalence and impact of malnutrition risk on clinical outcomes in patients with traumatic brain injury (TBI) and stroke. The study utilized electronic health records from ICU admissions between 2017 and 2023 and included 1352 patients. The results showed that over 60% of patients had severe malnutrition risk at admission, with stroke patients, particularly those with hemorrhagic stroke, exhibiting a higher risk compared to TBI patients. Malnutrition risk was associated with higher hospital mortality and increased need for mechanical ventilation. The study emphasizes the importance of identifying and managing malnutrition early in the ICU setting to improve patient outcomes. Further research is needed to validate these findings and develop effective interventions. [Extracted from the article] |
