A recent study conducted at the Military Medicine Academy in Belgrade, Serbia, examined the characteristics of patients with nodular and multinodular atoxic goiter to identify potential predictors for assessing thyroid cancer risk. The study included 275 patients and found that patients with multiple thyroid nodules were older and had a higher body mass index compared to patients with one nodule. Additionally, patients with one thyroid nodule had a higher level of thyroid-stimulating hormone. The study concluded that the cytological finding of fine needle aspiration biopsy was the only parameter with predictive relevance for assessing thyroid cancer risk. [Extracted from the article] |
