A recent study conducted by the University of Buenos Aires in Argentina examined the prevalence of psychiatric comorbid disorders and impulsivity in patients with drug-resistant focal epilepsy. The study included patients with temporal lobe epilepsy (TLE) and extra-temporal epilepsy (ETE), as well as a control group. Both groups of patients showed a high frequency of Axis I comorbid psychiatric disorders, with depression being the most common. Additionally, both TLE and ETE groups exhibited higher impulsivity scores compared to the control group. The study suggests that comorbid depression and higher impulsivity should be considered in the evaluation and treatment of patients with drug-resistant focal epilepsies. [Extracted from the article] |
