Abstrakt: This article, published in the PICES Press in the summer of 2024, discusses sea surface temperatures and sea ice in the Sea of Okhotsk during the 2023/2024 cold season. The western North Pacific experienced positive sea surface temperature anomalies, with temperatures exceeding +6°C off the Sanriku coast of eastern Japan. Notable anomalies were also observed in waters west of Japan. In the Sea of Okhotsk, the winter maximum sea ice extent was 1.21 million km2, which was around 108% of the 30-year average. The article includes figures showing monthly mean SST anomalies and the long-term trend of winter maximum sea ice extents in the Sea of Okhotsk. [Extracted from the article]
