Abstrakt: The Gouldian finch, known for its vibrant colors, was once abundant in northern Australia but has faced significant threats to its population. The species was heavily trapped for the aviary trade in the late 1800s and early 1900s, leading to a decline in the wild population. Additionally, habitat change caused by cattle grazing and altered fire regimes has further impacted the species. However, recent improvements in land management and the ban on trapping have helped the Gouldian finch numbers bounce back. Conservation efforts are now focused on re-establishing appropriate fire regimes and native grasslands in Queensland to ensure the species' recovery and the survival of other threatened grassland species.
