Abstrakt: A study published in the Plant Biotechnology Journal explores the role of the GhVQ22 gene in regulating pigment gland (PG) size and secondary metabolic accumulation in cotton. The researchers found that silencing GhVQ22 resulted in significantly enlarged PGs and altered composition and content of secondary metabolites. The study also revealed that GhVQ22 is a downstream target of Gl2/Gl3 genes and negatively regulates PG size. These findings provide insights into the genetic mechanisms involved in PG development and suggest potential applications for anti-pest strategies in cotton. [Extracted from the article]
