Abstrakt: This article discusses the potential therapeutic approach of combining aztreonam with ceftazidime/avibactam for treating metallo-beta-lactamase (MBL)-infections caused by Klebsiella pneumoniae strains. While no randomized, well-controlled trials have been conducted, observational studies suggest that this combination is clinically useful. The authors of the article acknowledge the valuable and clinically beneficial research conducted by Mateusz Szymański et al. The study included 26 intensive care unit (ICU) patients with nosocomial invasive infections caused by MBL-producing Klebsiella pneumoniae, and the authors concluded that the best treatment outcomes were achieved with the combination therapy of ceftazidime-avibactam with aztreonam. The article also discusses the methods used to determine the synergy between the antibiotics and highlights the challenges associated with polymyxins. [Extracted from the article]
