Abstrakt: A simple and efficient methodology for the selective oxygenation of benzylic C(sp3)−H bond and oxidation of primary and secondary alcohols using non‐noble photoredox copper catalyst under visible light irradiation is described. Notably, non‐noble copper photoredox catalysts were found to be good for the oxidation reactions when compared to various commercially available photoredox catalysts employed in the present methodology. In addition, oxygen as clean oxidant at room temperature and compatible for both the oxygenation and oxidation reactions. A wide range of carbonyl compounds bearing both electron rich and electron deficient substituents was synthesized in moderate to excellent yields under milder and environmentally friendly conditions. Also, a thorough investigation was carried out to understand the mechanism of both oxidation reactions. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
