A recent study conducted by researchers at the Karolinska Institute in Stockholm, Sweden, examined the surgical outcomes of immediate breast reconstruction (IBR) in women aged 65 and older with breast cancer. The study found that while infection rates were similar between women aged 65 and younger, reoperation rates were higher in the older age group. However, age alone was not found to be an independent risk factor for surgical complications. The study suggests that age should not be a barrier to IBR in older women with breast cancer.
