A recent study conducted at the Fourth Military Medical University in Xi'an, China, examined the prevalence of metabolic syndrome (MetS) among patients with ischemic stroke. The study found that MetS affected approximately 43.4% of patients with ischemic stroke. Female sex, visceral obesity, and body mass index were identified as independent risk factors for the development of MetS. The study also proposed sex-specific reference values for visceral fat area (VFA) as a predictor of MetS in patients with ischemic stroke. This research provides valuable insights into the relationship between stroke and metabolic syndrome. [Extracted from the article] |
