A recent study conducted by researchers at the University of Delaware focused on the resistance of lima beans to root-knot nematodes, which can significantly reduce crop yield. The researchers conducted field trials to evaluate the resistance traits and yield potential of different lima bean lines, and identified a pre-commercial line, DE1306635, that showed the highest yield and reduced galling and reproduction compared to commercial standards. In addition, the researchers assessed 256 lima bean inbred accessions from around the world to identify novel sources of resistance. They identified seven accessions with reduced nematode galling and reproduction, including two known resistant lines and five newly identified genotypes. Further characterization of these genotypes will be conducted to assess their potential use in lima bean breeding for resistance to root-knot nematodes. [Extracted from the article] |
