Researchers from the Saveetha School of Engineering in Tamil Nadu, India, have conducted studies on alginate-based systems for drug delivery and wound healing. Alginate, a natural polysaccharide derived from seaweed, has gained attention for its biocompatibility, biodegradability, and ease of gelation. Alginate formulations have shown effectiveness in delivering a wide range of drugs and have demonstrated wound healing potential. The review provides insights into the extraction source and characteristics of alginates, discusses the progress in alginate-based formulations, and highlights the challenges and future prospects of these systems. The research has been peer-reviewed and published in the International Journal of Polymeric Materials. [Extracted from the article] |
