Abstrakt: A recent study conducted by researchers from Cairo University explores the potential renoprotective effects of the anti-diabetic drug empagliflozin (EMPA) on methotrexate (MTX)-induced nephrotoxicity in male albino rats. The study suggests that EMPA may protect against MTX-induced toxicity by activating the AMPK/Nrf2 signaling pathway. The researchers found that EMPA treatment improved various parameters related to nephrotoxicity, such as serum creatinine levels and renal microarchitecture, and this improvement was correlated with increased AMPK phosphorylation and Nrf2 expression. The study highlights the potential of EMPA as a protective agent against MTX-induced nephrotoxicity. [Extracted from the article]
