A recent study conducted by researchers at Universitas Nusa Cendana has provided new insights into the Newcastle Disease Virus (NDV) and its impact on chickens. The study focused on the differences between two vaccines, one targeting NDV genotype II (GII-vacc) and the other targeting genotype VII (GVII-vacc). The research found that GVII-vacc affected the immune response by downregulating neuroinflammation and enhancing a synaptogenesis pathway, suggesting a neurotrophic effect. On the other hand, GII-vacc inhibited apoptosis but did not affect the same synaptogenesis pathway. The findings suggest that the application of GVII-vacc should be considered in countries where GVII is the leading cause of NDV outbreaks, and the molecular signatures identified in the study may be used to develop new vaccines.
