Building Effective Local Leadership and Community Organizations to Strengthen the Involvement of Indigenous Communities in Ecotourism: Insights from the Batek Community from Malaysia.

Abstrakt: This study examines local leadership and community organization's involved in ecotourism in Malaysia. They influence the involvement of indigenous people in ecotourism and, by that, are challenging to jettison. The study intends to contribute to build effective local leadership in the community to strengthen the involvement of Batek indigenous people in ecotourism. It employs qualitative research methods. Data was collected through two techniques, primary data through in-depth interviews. while secondary data is collected through document analysis. Interviews were carried out with informants among the Batek community which consisted of local leaders and those who are actively involved in ecotourism activities in Kuala Tahan National Park, Pahang Malaysia. Data were analyzed using a qualitative statistical package, NVivo 12 software. The findings show that the survival and development of the Batek people in ecotourism depend on good leadership. The success in empowering the Batek people's ecotourism also rests on forming the organization's action tourism plans, executing operations, as well as promoting and monitoring the activities being carried out.
