A recent study conducted by researchers at the Universidad de Concepcion highlights the use of artificial intelligence (AI) and pictograms to improve adherence to medical treatment among elderly asthma patients. The study introduces a technological framework called SIMAP (System for Integrating Medical Instructions with Pictograms) that utilizes AI methods for natural language processing to analyze and associate medical instructions with pictograms. The framework was developed through a collaborative and user-centered methodology, involving health professionals and patients in its construction and validation. The study found that SIMAP demonstrated great potential in supplementing medical instructions with pictograms, improving comprehension and adherence among elderly patients.
