A recent study conducted by researchers at the Universidad de la Republica in Uruguay examined the use of pharmacological treatments for cystic echinococcosis (CE), a chronic and neglected disease. The study analyzed the results of anti-parasitic treatment in 43 patients diagnosed with CE between 2003 and 2020. The researchers found that treatment with the drug Albendazole (ABZ) alone or in combination with Praziquantel (PZQ) was effective in improving or curing the disease. The study suggests that pharmacological treatment can be a viable option, particularly for patients who are not suitable candidates for surgery. However, further randomized trials are needed to provide more clinical evidence for different pharmacological treatments for CE. [Extracted from the article] |
