Abstrakt: A recent report from the Albert Einstein College of Medicine discusses the potential impact of antiretroviral drugs on autophagy, a cellular process involved in energy regulation and quality control. The decline in autophagic activity is associated with aging and the development of age-related diseases, including cancer. Antiretroviral drugs, which have been successful in treating HIV, show promise in cancer treatment by altering cancer cell autophagy and promoting cell death. However, further research is needed to fully understand the effects of these drugs on autophagy and successfully repurpose them for cancer chemotherapy. [Extracted from the article]
