A study conducted by the University of Maroua investigated the chemical constituents, antioxidant potential, and antidiabetic activity of Gymnema sylvestre. The study identified twelve compounds from the methanol extract, including sterols, triterpenoids, and flavonoids. The extract exhibited strong antioxidant activity and demonstrated potential for managing postprandial hyperglycemia. In silico studies also revealed promising binding affinities between the compounds and target enzymes. The study suggests that Gymnema sylvestre could be a complementary therapeutic approach for managing hyperglycemia associated with type 2 diabetes. [Extracted from the article] |
