Researchers from the Universidad de la Republica in Montevideo, Uruguay, have developed a nasal drug delivery system using a thermosensitive mucoadhesive hydrogel and the psychedelic drug 5-methoxy-N,-N-dimethyltryptamine (5-MeO-DMT). The formulation was optimized using a Box-Behnken experimental design, focusing on gelification temperature, viscosity, and mucoadhesion. The results showed that the hydrogel exhibited sustained release of the drug and had promising properties for efficient nasal drug delivery.
