A paramagnetic, pentanuclear, metal–metal bonded complex comprising three metals is isolated. The Cu dx2−y2 orbital of the Rh–Pt–Cu–Pt–Rh chain contains an unpaired electron. The close energetic levels and symmetric overlap of the Cu dx2−y2 and Rh–Pt δ* induces a charge-transfer reaction to achieve the diamagnetic Rh–Pt–Cu–Pt–Rh complex. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR] |
